Asymptotic properties of groups acting on hyperbolic graphs, lattices in Lie groups, and their subgroups

Abstract:
I will talk about asymptotic cones of groups acting on hyperbolic graphs (including the mapping class groups), and lattices of Lie groups. In particular I will show how information about asymptotic cones affects the structure of subgroups of these groups. These are joint results with J. Behrstock, C. Drutu and S.Mozes.
