Power of analogy

Abstract:
Analogy is a powerful tool when thinking about mathematics. I will feature a particular finitely presented group -- Out(F_n) -- and recall some particular theorems that have been proved in analogy with the mapping class group, a faithful guide in a chaotic maze. Then I will speculate on what lies in the future.
